RASK at Skagaströnd 2014
 

The RASK project l bring together recourses from rural and remote areas in three Nordic countries to conduct a workshop, conference and exhibition. The goal of the project is to share innovation and open new discussion that will help the communities understand more about the mechanisms in the development of art and culture scenes in rural places.

Contemporary art at the coast of Nordmøre

Samvirke is a project-based gallery and studio for guest artists who is invited to work at the fishing village Veiholmen for a shorter period. The projects are initiated and run by Samvirke and developed through collaboration with invited artists. The projects are mostly site-specific. All activities are funded from various government funds and subsidies. Samvirke has completed eleven major projects since establishment in 2013. The artists who has visited Veiholmen are represented from both Denmark, Iceland, the Netherlands, France and Germany. Samvirke are initiated and run by artists Heidi Rognskog Mella and Mona Eckhoff Sørmo.

RASK at Veiholmen 2013

 

Smøla the first municipality who welcomed the prosject RASK in 2013. Six artists worked at the fishing village Veiholmen and the seminar "Fram med Rasket" was completed. The exhibition and seminar was very well attended and it is gratifying that RASK visiting the municipalities Skagaströnd in Island  and Læsø in Denmark the following years. Nordic Culture Fund gives the project a larger support.

LOCAL - Contemporary art and seafood at Veiholmen, July 2014

 

Samvirke invites yearly artists for residency at the fishing village Veiholmen where they are given the opportunity to work with local resources. In the summer 2014 the theme was local identity as the basis for promoting interdisci-plinary exchange and innovation.

Vittorio Serritelli and his team held courses in new ways to serve and prepare local seafood. The courses were fully booked and the food gave us the inspiration and new taste sensations. Recipes are posted, and we would strongly recommend to test some of them eg. "Carpaccio Baccalà".

Street Exhibition Children 2014 

 

Twelve children -  attended a day workshop where they learned to paint on large canvases. The exhibition was hung in the main street at Veiholmen and was very well received. See pictures from the workshop, the opening and the exhibition.

Pop Up Kitchen by Future Food

 

Future Food served fish soup with seaweed from a pop kitchen and held courses in how to use seaweed in various cuisines. Zoe Christiansen and Sven Erga had their hands full. They collaborated with visual artists Hilde Rognskog who was responsible for the joinery and Ingwill Gjelsvik who made containers blonde tang.

SALONG - Salon des refusés, opening the 4th of july. 2015 at 14:00  at Veiholmen!

 

The Salong project consists of an exhibition and a book, based on visual expression that represents a marginalized fishing village, Veiholmen. The exhibition is made of paintings, drawings, objects and artifacts collected from the local houses at the place The way things are arranged and put together forms new narratives about the place, people and culture. The coffe-table book "Salong" will consist of documentation of the process deskribing the building of the exhibition. Expression that we associate with contemporary, modernity and design-icons will be lifted and displayed an attention that will create recognition and participation in the local, and at the same time be of public interest.

SALONG - VEIHOLMEN 2015

An exhibition that gathers all of the visual peculiarities and interesting phenomena, that we find in the houses of the fishing village Veiholmen at Nordmøre. Everyone is welcome to participate – by hanging up works and objects that are both weird, special, phenomenal, hidden, secluded, has a sentimental value, is homemade or made at school or what ever that are unique, or simply just have to be within the exhibition.

RASK at Læsø in Denmark 2015


We are very satisfied with the implementation of the project RASK at Læsø in Denmark. This was the third year of existence. Thanks for the hospitality and collaboration with all involved partners. Special thanks to Læsø Kunsthall and Læsø municipality. Also thanks to the participating artists; Nina Maria Kleivan, Rune Johansen, Frode Gundorf, Hrafnhildur Sigurðardóttir, Janne Aas, Mona Eckhoff Sørmo and Heidi Rognskog Mella. The seminar was successfully conducted at the top of the Bødehuset with the fantastic view over the fishing harbour Østerby havn. The presenters discussed contemporary art in marginalized communities, myths, storytelling, freedom of speech, policy on how to facilitate good working conditions for the contemporary art scene in small communities. The contributors at the seminar was among several; Arno Victor Nielsen, Jon Eirik Lundberg, Elisabet Skylare, Laila Skaret, Olav Juul Gaarn Larsen, Jens Morten Hansen and Hans Kolstad. see more about the project

ON THE EDGE 2016

Ten students from the Art Academy in Trondheim put literally Veiholmen on the map this summer. As many as 26 single works was produced whereas 17 works was placed around the island outdoor and 9 works was shown at the Samvirke Gallery. The project title "On The Edge" refers to the place Veiholmen and its location on the map, on the outer edge toward the ocean. The Danish guest artist Katja Bjørn was special invited to display selected video works.
 

The exhibition opened on 1 July 2016 and lasted until 30 September.

See the pictures from the opening of the RASK exhibition at the local swimming pool Sundlaug Skaga-strand. This picture is from Janne Aas performance with the title "Ursuppen". The opening was a rainy but eventful experience with live music, cocktails  and contemporary art.  

DELING - ATTIMÆ-BENK 2017

- et samarbeidsprosjekt mellom Billedkunstnerne i Møre og Romsdal og Kunsthåndverkerne Midt-Norge. Prosjektet handler om kunnskaps-overføring og pågikk parallellt i Ålesund, på Veiholmen og i Surnadal. Samvirkes bidrag i prosjektet hadde tittel «Attimæbenken». «Attimæ» betyr «sammen med».
